Editorial assessment

Ultra Male is Jean Paul Gaultier’s sweeter and more forceful interpretation of the original Le Male DNA. Released in 2015 and composed by Francis Kurkdjian, it shifts the familiar lavender-and-vanilla structure toward ripe fruit, warm spice, and a considerably denser sweetness. Pear is one of the fragrance’s most recognizable features, giving the opening a juicy, almost syrupy character alongside lavender, mint, and bergamot. Cinnamon and aromatic sage reinforce the warmth through the middle, while vanilla, amber, and woods dominate the later stages. The result is distinctly sweet and youthful, with enough aromatic contrast to keep it from becoming a straightforward vanilla gourmand. Ultra Male is not especially restrained. Its sweetness, noticeable synthetic character, and strong projection can become tiring in hot weather or close indoor environments. This is better suited to cooler temperatures, evenings, and situations where a pronounced scent trail is desirable. Performance remains one of its stronger attributes. Parfumo’s large user sample places longevity at 8.3/10 and sillage at 8.2/10, both clearly above average. Reports about newer batches are less consistent, but the broader community data still supports describing Ultra Male as a strong performer rather than treating weaker individual experiences as representative. At its official retail price, the value proposition is reasonable for a designer fragrance with strong performance and a well-established scent identity, although discounted bottles are commonly available through third-party retailers.
