Creamy vanilla, cinnamon and praline smell like warm custard over polished wood; delicious, powerful and undeniably expensive.

Editorial assessment

Althaïr smells like vanilla custard dusted with cinnamon, then served in a polished wooden bowl. The opening is brighter than its reputation suggests. Bergamot, mandarin and elemi cut through the sweetness before orange blossom and cardamom make everything warmer and creamier.
The vanilla is rich, smooth and clearly the star. Praline adds a toasted sugar effect, while guaiac wood keeps the drydown from becoming pure bakery syrup. Still, this is sweet. In warm weather or after too many sprays, it can feel thick enough to wear you instead.
Fragrance communities generally agree that performance is one of its strongest points. It projects confidently and stays around for most of the day, especially on clothing. The bottle is handsome, but the official price is difficult to ignore. Althaïr smells polished and addictive, yet several cheaper vanilla scents live in the same neighborhood. Sample first, then decide whether the extra smoothness is worth the luxury tax.
