Scent profile

Honeyed lavender and tobacco smell plush and addictive, though the sweetness can turn heavy if you overspray.

Editorial assessment

Naxos smells expensive before it smells complicated. The first spray has this bright lavender-and-citrus snap, but honey starts creeping in almost immediately and changes the whole mood. A few minutes later it reminds me of walking into an old-fashioned cigar lounge where someone has left a jar of warm honey open on the counter. Sweet, aromatic, slightly dusty, and ridiculously smooth. The tobacco isn't smoky or dirty. It feels soft and almost creamy, especially once vanilla and tonka settle underneath it. Cinnamon adds warmth without turning the scent into a Christmas candle, while the lavender keeps poking through enough to stop all that sweetness from becoming completely edible. Xerjoff's current official note list also includes Omani incense in the opening, something older community databases often leave out. Performance is where Naxos earns a lot of its reputation. Browse fragrance communities and you'll repeatedly find people talking about it lasting through most of a day and leaving a noticeable trail. Parfumo's large user base also places both longevity and sillage comfortably above average. There is a downside nobody should pretend isn't there: the honey can become suffocating. Overspray this in warm weather and the creamy sweetness starts feeling sticky rather than luxurious. Some people also get an almost medicinal honey-lavender effect, which explains why a fragrance this popular still has very vocal haters. At the current $237 official US price for 100 ml, it isn't cheap, but at least the performance and presentation don't feel cut-rate. I wouldn't blind-buy it just because the internet treats Naxos like mandatory niche-perfume homework. If honey, lavender and tobacco already sound good to you, though, this is one of the few heavily hyped bottles that can actually make the price feel understandable.
