Dark saffron dry oud and cold lavender hit hard; powerful addictive stuff but the price is brutal.

Editorial assessment

The saffron is the real attention grabber here. It has that dry slightly metallic bite that can remind you of hot electronics or a freshly opened leather case with nutmeg adding warmth and lavender cutting through the darkness. Then the woods take over. Don't expect filthy barnyard-style oud; this is much cleaner smoother and easier to wear than the name might suggest. Patchouli and musk make the drydown feel dense and almost shadowy without turning muddy. Initio officially lists oud agarwood oil lavender saffron patchouli musk and nutmeg while Fragrantica separates saffron nutmeg and lavender into the opening oud into the heart and patchouli with musk into the base. Performance is ridiculous. This is one of those scents where two sprays can already feel like plenty and fragrance communities consistently treat both longevity and sillage as major strengths. Parfumo currently rates its performance comfortably above average while recent reviews repeatedly warn about overspraying. The problem is the price. Initio's official U.S. store currently asks $435 for the 90 ml bottle. That's hard to swallow especially when the saffron-heavy DNA has inspired so many cheaper alternatives. The bottle looks fantastic and the scent absolutely has presence but at full retail this needs to be something you genuinely love not something you buy because the hype told you to.
