Farah gets the opening remarkably close. Rum feels warm and slightly fruity rather than sharply alcoholic, while saffron gives it the leathery, almost medicinal tension that makes Side Effect so recognizable. Cinnamon arrives quickly and rounds the edges without burying the booze.
The original is more polished. Side Effect has a softer transition into tobacco and vanilla, whereas Farah can develop a dry, rubbery saffron note on some skin. Cedar is also more obvious here, making the later stages darker and woodier than the Initio.
Still, this is not a vague interpretation. In the air, especially through the first few hours, the resemblance is strong enough to fool anyone who only knows Side Effect casually. Performance reports vary between bottles, but the better-performing examples have serious staying power. For the money, Farah gets unusually close without smelling like a cheap caricature.
