After Effect understands Side Effect best once the opening has had time to breathe. Rum and cinnamon arrive hot and slightly abrasive, with saffron giving the first few minutes a medicinal, almost rubbery edge on some skin. Side Effect is noticeably smoother here and makes the boozy accord feel more natural. The gap closes quickly. Tobacco, sandalwood and the lingering rum accord settle into a dark, sweet warmth that carries the same seductive shape as the Initio. In the air, it can be difficult to separate them without paying close attention. Up close, After Effect remains drier, spicier and less creamy. Community opinion is not completely unanimous, which is worth noting. Plenty of wearers consider it one of the strongest Side Effect clones, while others find the opening too synthetic. Performance is generally praised, and stronger bottles can last through most of the day. It misses some of the original's polish, but the drydown is close enough to explain why this clone has stayed popular.
